Got Joint Pain? Stem Cell Therapy Offers Surgery-Free Relief

Got Joint Pain? Stem Cell Therapy Offers Surgery-Free Relief

Chronic joint pain can make it almost impossible to live your life without discomfort and mobility issues. The most common cause of severe ongoing joint pain is arthritis, which has been reported by more than 15 million people of all backgrounds, ethnicities, and age ranges.

Dr. Philip Regala specializes in orthopedic and sports medicine in the Naples, Florida area. He offers a range of regenerative treatments for joint pain, including PRP and stem cell therapy. Using these techniques, he can often reduce or eliminate the need for surgical intervention.

PRP and stem cell therapy

Your body contains multiple factors that can help boost regeneration, reduce inflammation, and speed healing. Some of these factors are in your blood, and others are in your bone marrow, organs, brain, muscles, and other tissues throughout the body.

PRP

Your blood contains several different components, including plasma, red and white blood cells, and platelets. Platelets have a high amount of growth factors. Your doctor can create platelet rich plasma, or PRP, by taking a sample of your blood and centrifuging it.

This causes the platelets to become concentrated in the plasma. The resulting PRP can be injected into the site of an injury, a surgical incision, or chronic pain. The growth factors in the PRP attract more growth factors from elsewhere in the body and work to speed recovery of the injury or disease.

Stem cells

Stem cells are found in many parts of your body, but are concentrated most in your bone marrow, which is one of the most common sites for harvesting. Harvested stem cells can be mixed with PRP for an even stronger regenerative effect.

Dr. Regala uses Arthrex® products to provide stem cell systems and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy. This ensures that the products used are biocompatible, and that you can receive the full benefit of healthy platelets and stem cells to kickstart your body’s regenerative processes.

What’s the process for stem cell therapy?

Dr. Regala consults with you about your joint pain, and draws some blood. He then prepares a stem cell infusion for you based on your specific needs and performs the injections in our office. You can go home directly afterward. It usually takes a few days for effects to become apparent, but the benefits can last for weeks.
